BIXBY, Okla. – Residents are asked to keep an eye out for a man wearing handcuffs who could possibly be a suspect who escaped police custody Wednesday.

Bixby police are searching for Daniel Mejia who escaped from officers near the area of 12900th block of South 74th East Avenue.

Mejia is described as a Hispanic man, 5-foot 7 with black hair and brown eyes.

The incident started when a woman called officers claiming that another woman was armed with a handgun threatening to shoot someone at the house where she was located. When they arrived, the man who claimed to own the home said he was struck in the face with a firearm by the woman inside the house.

After investigating, officers found a firearm and another male subject hiding within the residence. The man who was reportedly hiding, Mejia, was arrested.

Not long after being arrested, however, he managed to escape police custody and was picked up by an unknown driver in a vehicle.
