Bixby officials warn of shallow flooding in some neighborhoods

BIXBY, Okla. — Bixby officials have released locations in their city they believe could be impacted by some flooding issues this week.

Based on regional flood modeling and anticipated release rates [of the Keystone Dam], the City of Bixby anticipated the neighborhoods listed below will be impacted as follows:

Shallow flooding up to 1 foot:

  • Downtown Bixby from Memorial to Riverview, South of Needles to Bixby Creek
  • Riverview Terrace


Shallow flooding up to 1 foot; however, with the antecedent moisture conditions, the following neighborhoods should be prepared to evacuate upon future notification, the city says:

  • Johns Park
  • Saker
  • Southtown
  • Woodland Acres (174th and Mingo)


No significant impact is anticipated in neighborhoods North of the Arkansas River at this time, the City of Bixby says.

"No flooding is expected in Deer Run Estates (181st and 129th E Ave) and Bixby Ranch Estates (201st and 137th E Ave)," a city spokesperson said. "However, access to those areas will likely be limited starting at midnight tonight. Residents in these areas should be prepared to shelter in place for an extended period of time or evacuate. Drivers who typically utilize 129th and/or Mingo Road to access Hwy 64 from the South are also under the same above advisory."
