A state representative is filing a bill to end the death penalty in Oklahoma.
Representative Jason Dunnington says it would remove the death penalty from options for sentencing in capital cases.
The taxpayer cost of incarceration for death row inmates is more than twice that of inmates with life sentences and there is no evidence that shows the death penalty deters crime, Dunnington said.
House Bill 2876 will be assigned for a committee hearing in February.
