Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's are donating 55,000 fishing rods nationwide in an effort to get kids outside this summer.
The movement, called "Gone Fishing," will see the rods and reels donated to nonprofit organizations that help children from all backgrounds connect with the outdoors.
During the family-friendly Gone Fishing events taking place over the next two weekends (June 8-9 and June 15-16), children of all ages are invited to catch their first fish with free catch-and-release ponds, and take part in other activities.
On Thursday at the Bass Pro Shops in Broken Arrow, a ceremony featuring the Down Syndrome Association of Tulsa, is being held as a part of the movement.
