BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – A city councilor in Bartlesville gave her resignation following comments she made regarding police that were made public.

2 Works for You reporter Joe Henke \spoke with Bartlesville city leaders who confirmed that City Councilor Doann Nguyen gave her resignation letter this week.

Comments that were made public from a YouTube video say, "I hate it. I don't even like our cops. It's sad to me when I know they're uneducated. Anyone who wants to be a cop glorifies this warrior version, this warrior masculine version of what cops are seen now exerting their power and people who are attracted to that and romanticize that are just kind of these violent perverts.”

Sources say the comments were unknowingly recorded in April.

City Manager Ed Gordon sent a statement regarding the situation saying, “Ms. Nguyen has submitted her resignation from the Bartlesville City Council, effective immediately. While it would not be appropriate for me to comment on the circumstances surrounding Ms. Nguyen’s resignation, as administration, we are in full support of our police officers, as we are all City of Bartlesville employees.”

"Reaction I have seen has been in support of the police department. Shock in regard to the comments. Everything we have received has been in support of us. That has come from Bartlesville and all over the country this morning. We appreciate that support,” said Det. Anthony Lein, Bartlesville Fraternal Order of Police.

According to the City of Bartlesville website, Nguyen is city councilor of Ward 4.
