Several schools were in the path of that tornado warning including several Broken Arrow Public schools.

Two of those B.A. schools are equipped to handle the damaging winds of a tornado: Timber Ridge Elementary and Sequoyah Middle School have EF5 FEMA-rated safe rooms.

The gym at Timber Ridge can hold everyone in the school.

The walls are thick and the doors are backed up by a huge storm rated garage door.

One of the P.E. coaches said the last thing any parent should do is try to pull their kid out if the weather gets bad in the middle of the day.

”I would advise them don’t come try to get them or pick them up early because i mean it puts themselves in danger. Just trust that this building will do what it’s meant to do we’re very fortunate to have it. we’re going to take every precaution here to keep their babies safe,” said Coach Dave Cosby.

Broken Arrow Public Schools officials said the district partnered with 'Safe Schools 101' to help the district find places to shelter in buildings that don't have safe rooms.
