TULSA - On Valentine's Day weekend, hundreds of people with special needs will turn into royalty for one special night. It's called The Night to Shine Prom sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation.
Friday, some of those planning to attend the prom tried on their dresses for the first time.
When you first see Molly and Megan Myers, it might be hard to tell them apart because they are identical twins who are both living with Down syndrome. But Friday’s dress fitting proved they have two very distinct styles.
"It’s really awesome because I love the dresses, I love the colors," said Molly.
"It's really good, I love the style," said Megan.
After searching the racks, they found the right ones.
"I like this little diamond and this little bow," said Molly.
"I like the pink and the sparkles at the same time," said Megan.
The Night to Shine Prom put on by the Assembly of Broken Arrow will be their first. It's also the first for the church, whose members have been working hard with the Tim Tebow Foundation to perfect every dress and detail.
"There’s really a large population of people with special needs in Tulsa, so it's really an opportunity to reach them," said Assembly of Broken Arrow young adult pastor Joel Thompson. "They’re special to God, they're special to us."
Now that molly and Megan have found their dresses, they'll move on to hair, shoes and other important decisions that come with this special rite of passage.
"They didn't get to go to their junior prom, we didn't plan that so I’m so glad this foundation came to Tulsa," said Molly and Megan's mother, Kimberly Myers. "They are just like everyone else. They have feelings, they have emotions, they have goals."
For these teens, some of those goals will be achieved just a few weeks away.
"This is going to be our first time in a limo," said Molly.
"We're almost there! Like imagining we're there," said Megan.
The Night to Shine Prom will be held Friday, February 12 from 6 p.m. To 9 p.m. at the Glenpool Conference Center.
The assembly says the event is filling up quicly. If you want to attend, or if you'd like to volunteer, you can sign up here.
