TULSA, Okla. — Good news -- Atlas will soon have a forever home!

"We've had dozens and dozens of applications to adopt him, and we've settled on a family that we think is really really great for him who has lots of experience with abused animals and have other dogs in the family," says Caitlin Taylor, a board member with the Humane Society of Tulsa.

She says the adoptive family is a local couple who will be picking up Atlas on Thursday.

It has been nearly two weeks since Atlas was found mistreated in a Creek County field with his legs strapped together, glue in his ears and a BB gun bullet lodged inside.

Since he was found, he has been under the care of the VCA Woodland Central Animal Hospital in Tulsa.

"It only took 24 hours for him to go from depressed to very happy and excited dog," says veterinarian Dr. Kristen Haak.

Atlas had surgery a few days ago to remove two fractured teeth and has been neutered. He continues to recover well under the care of Dr. Haak and VCA staff.

Strangers have stepped up to help with treats and toys, as well as money donations.

There is a $10,000 reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of the abuser.

It is a felony to intentionally or maliciously "torture, destroy or kill" an animal, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture. If the suspect is found guilty, he or she could face up to five years in prison or pay a fine of $500.
