TULSA — A road widening project near the new Tulsa Amazon fulfillment center, which is under construction, will delay traffic later this year.
The project near East 36th Street North between U.S. 169 and North 129th East Avenue will begin Sept. 1. One lane on 36th Street North will be closed during the project, but two-way traffic will be maintained. The projects consists of modifying and extending storm sewers to allow for road widening near the fulfillment center, which is under construction at 4040 North 125th East Avenue.
Additional lanes will also be added to the area. The infrastructure project is funded by Amazon.
A fulfillment center is where Amazon picks items out of inventory, packs and ships them to customers. Currently, there are more than 100 in the United States.
The plan for the center showed a 640,000 square foot building that is four stories tall. The fulfillment center will bring about 1,500 full-time jobs to Tulsa.
