Posted

An adult business is going in just feet away from a Tulsa Catholic school.

Many in the community wondering how Hustler Hollywood" could open near Bishop Kelley High School.

Hustler Hollywood - a self-proclaimed upscale, modern erotic boutique, wants to create a new home in midtown Tulsa, right near 41st and Sheridan.

Many businesses expressing concern over their possible new neighbor.

"Something like this just kind of makes that thought in the back of your head that maybe I don't want to leave my kids there so that's not something that we'd like," Airsoft Tulsa manager Jonathan McElvania said.

Airsoft Tulsa Manager fearing Hustler Hollywood could negatively impact their business - with their main clientele being kids - right next door.

"Questions you don't want kids to be asking and people that will be there that you won't really want around your kids sometimes," McElvania said.

Councilwoman Karen Gilbert says Hustler Hollywood needs to sell less than 10 percent of sexually oriented items in order to be classified as a retail store and be able to sit less than a 1,000 feet from Bishop Kelley.

"If you're talking if they have a couple thousand items, 10 percent is actually quite a big amount," McElvania said.

So what would the other 90 percent of their retail be?

"I heard that they sell tee shirts, sweatshirts, swimsuits," Gilbert said.

Bishop Kelley is pleading with the public to reach out to city officials to stop Hustler Hollywood from moving in.

Councilwoman Gilbert says the business has their building permit.

The next step is getting a permit of occupancy.

If the business opens doors, Gilbert says the city will keep a close eye that they're staying under that 10 percent line.
