BROKEN ARROW, Okla. - A father and three children were sleeping inside their home when it caught on fire.

They were able to escape and got out before crews arrived.

The Broken Arrow Fire Department was dispatched around 10:30 p.m. to the 7100 block of South Oak Avenue.

When firefighters arrived, the back porch was heavily involved. Crews fought the fire through the garage and out the back porch. They were able to extinguish the fire quickly.

At the same time, the family's pet Chihuahua was trapped inside, so crews went in and rescued it.

When they found the dog, it was unresponsive, but Fire Chief Jeremy Moore said thanks to recently donated masks by the Good Shepherd Veterinarian Clinic, they were able to revive the dog.

Chief Moore said the family didn't need Red Cross assistance. They have a place to stay.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
