OWASSO, Okla. -- A family of four was displaced following a house fire in Owasso possibly caused by a lightning strike Thursday morning.
The Owasso Fire Department said it received the call about the fire around midnight. Officials said the family woke up to a loud boom coming from the attic, and then heavy smoke filled the air.
The parents and their two children escaped the home safely.
When firefighters arrived the roof was engulfed in flames. They prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the house, but the roof is destroyed.
Officials believe the house was struck by lightning during the storm, but the fire marshall will be conducting an investigation.
The family is staying with relatives according to the battalion chief. He said they were able to save some of the family's valuables and children's clothes.
