An Oklahoma City mother sits by the side of her 9-year-old daughter who's recovering after being shot in a road rage incident in Texas, according to KXAS-TV in Dallas.

Diamond Dixon said the shooting happened late Sunday when they were heading back to OKC. Her daughter, Rubye Rhodes, has already had two surgeries.

Dixon said the suspect in the incident was driving erratically, then cut her off. So she honked, then that driver pulled up next to her and fired, hitting her daughter.

Doctors told Dixon her daughter is lucky to be alive. The shot injured the 4th graders left kidney and intestines

Rubye is in stable condition, and breathing on her own. She will be hospitalized for the next few days.
