8 TPS teachers chosen for national program

TULSA – Out of the 63 chosen for the Yale National Fellows program, eight were Tulsa Public School teachers.

Tulsa Public Schools sent a statement Friday saying that the chosen teachers would participate in national seminars as part of the Yale National Initiate to strengthen public school teaching.

The eight chosen teachers are: The eight participants from Tulsa Public Schools are Corrina Sue Christmas, Jackson Elementary; David Wayne Dean, Tulsa MET Junior High; Jo Anne Flory, East Central High School; Patricia Leann Hodge, Central High School; Jessica R. Johnson, Celia Clinton Elementary; Tim Smith, Memorial Junior High; Thomas Teague, Central Junior High; and Krista Baxter Waldron of Phoenix Rising. Christmas, Flory, Hodge, and Waldron are returning fellows.

The seminars will focus on enhancing the teachers’ knowledge of the subjects in their jurisdiction as well as give hands-on experience with the Teachers Institute approach to high-quality professional development.

For 2016, the seminars start on April 29 and end in mid-August. The TPS teachers will be accompanied by teachers representing 16 school districts in eight states and the District of Columbia.
