TULSA -- An east Tulsa apartment complex is on edge after an elderly woman was shot in the head Thursday morning.
Tulsa police say two male suspects ran from the scene and were chased by a K-9 officer throughout the complex. But the K-9 officer lost them and at this point are still on the loose.
Pink and white flower petals tough the concrete outside apartment 410.
“One minute it was just Mother’s Day and the next thing you know she’s gone," Sherman Blalock said.
The colorful bouquet lays at the front of 64-year-old Vennie Blalock's front door, a door she'll never open again.
"That’s what we called her, nana," Vennie's son, Sherman, said.
It happened Thursday morning at 3:30 at Sawmill Apartments Tulsa police say Blalock had just gotten out of her car when two males approached her and demanded her property.
“They came and put a gun to her and she hit she said no but then they came around and shot her," Blalock said.
“I heard a big boom," neighbor Jim Carter said. "I thought one of them cars hit them dumpsters. I mean it was bad.”
Carter said the two were becoming good friends.
“No way in the world that woman deserved what she got," he said.
Blalock's eldest son Sherman says the senseless act is not what they'll remember.
"Knowing that I’ll never have a mom again, or be able to talk to her breaks your heart," he said.
Although the flowers may die, the memories won't.
Tulsa police detectives have surveillance video from a neighbor. They'll be reviewing that video to see if they can determine who the suspects are.
