Asher said he originally wanted to hire a scientist to build laser bullets, but in the end decided to compromise and buy whistles for the department.

The GoFundMe page has already raised $1,280 of the $1,200 goal.

The whistles are handed out by the department to the elderly and children in case of a disaster. The whistles are also used to call for help in the event of a crime.
