PITTSBURG COUNTY - A 47-year-old motorcyclist was killed Saturday evening when his bike ran into the back of a stopped vehicle, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
Jimmy Cooper, McAlester, was operating a 2015 Harley Davidson on Highway 9 at Bower Road in Pittsburg County around 5 p.m. when he collided with the rear of a 2016 Chevy Tahoe that was stopped in the road waiting for the car in front of him to turn left.
Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
No one else was injured in the accident, according to troopers.
Both Cooper and the driver of the Tahoe were eastbound and when the Tahoe stopped in the roadway waiting for the vehicle turning left, Cooper failed to stop and hit the back of the SUV.
The accident is still under investigation.
Troopers say Cooper was not wearing a helmet.
