TULSA – A massive tower weighing around 860,000 pounds was transported through Tulsa on May 7.
Burkhalter Rigging Inc. slowly moved the naptha splitter tower through Tulsa. Though the massive tower only had to be moved about 20 miles, the drive took most of the day.
According to the company, the tower is almost 215 feet long and the total transport configuration around 380 feet long and nearly 22 feet tall.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation worked with Burkhalter and the cities of Tulsa and Sand Springs, Creek and Tulsa counties, state and local police, as well as five local utility companies and BNSF Railroad to ensure the tower was transported safely.
