Tragedy occured over the weekend after a two-year-old, identified as Pierre Stewart, was killed after he was hit by a truck crossing the street with his family.

It happened near 71st and Darlington. Police said a mother and her two children were trying to make their way to QuikTrip Saturday night around 9:30.

Police said they exited through the opening of fence by the YaleTowne apartments and continued toward the street, not using the crosswalk.

“It’s a tragic accident for everybody involved,” Officer Jeanne Mackenzie with the Tulsa Police Department said.

Authorities told 2 Works for You a woman and her two children, one in a stroller, stepped into the roadway.

“That is not a cross walk,” Officer Mackenzie said. “They were wearing dark clothing. The streets not that well lit.”

Investigators believe these factors lead to tragedy, when a truck came driving down the road.

“Apparently the driver of the truck just didn’t see them until it was too late,” Mackenzie said.

Two-year-old, Pierre Stewart was killed when he was struck in his stroller, his  mother, taken to the hospital in serious condition. A seven-year-old sibling was treated on scene and is OK.

“The driver of the truck stayed on scene after the collision and was fully cooperative with the investigators,” officers said.

At this time, the driver isn’t facing any charges, however the investigation is ongoing.
