For the third year in a row, 2 Works for You and Mathis Brothers Furniture are hosting the 2 Cares for the Community Backpack and Supply Drive benefiting The Parent Child Center of Tulsa and Project Elf from August 9 through August 23.

We are asking our viewers to donate new and gently used backpacks, new underwear and new socks beginning August 9 at Mathis Brothers Furniture at 71st and Hwy 169 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Last year our community donated more than 800 backpacks and 2000 other school essentials.

As students get ready to go back to school, many families are unable to provide their children with the basics. Backpacks can be an expensive luxury. New socks and underwear are costly to replace as they wear out. School counselors and social workers around Tulsa are constantly in need of these items to pass along to their students.

That’s where Project Elf can help. In its 13th year, the nonprofit organization strives to maintain a comprehensive inventory of supplies to fill the many requests from 99 schools in the Tulsa area. These schools include Tulsa Public Schools, Union Public Schools, charter schools and private schools. Project Elf inventory is a result of donations from all levels of our community.

Another great organization that will benefit from the backpack drive is The Parent Child Center of Tulsa (PCCT). For 29 years, PCCT has focused on the prevention of child abuse and neglect in the Tulsa metro area through education, treatment, and advocacy. Our vision is that all parents have the knowledge and skills to protect, nurture, and provide their own child. Last year, we served over 86,000 adults and children via programming aimed at strengthening families, and keeping kids safe.

"We are thrilled that KJRH and Mathis Brothers have chosen our organization to receive these resources for the kids we serve," said Regina Moon, President and CEO of PCCT. "Bringing the community together to be champions for kids in this vital manner will bring hope to our community's most vulnerable citizens."
