MCCURTAIN COUNTY, Okla. — Two Idabel men drowned on Sundayafternoon when their boat filled with water on a private lake, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol says.

According to OHP’s marine enforcement division, the men were fishing in an 11-foot aluminum boat at Goodwater Community, 12 miles east of Idabel in McCurtain County. Troopers say an investigation showed the boat was swamped with water and both victims went into the water.

The bodies of Lapatrick D. Van, 54, and Kenney Mays, 54, were recovered the next morning in 8.6 feet of water about 50 yards north of the south shore and 100 yards of the east shore, a report says.

Neither man was using a floatation device, according to troopers.
