2 children die in northeast OKC house fire

Posted

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Two children have died in a house fire in northeast Oklahoma City.

Firefighters arrived to fight the blaze about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday after a 911 caller told a dispatcher that two young children may be trapped inside.

A fire department spokesman told reporters that firefighters searched for the children in a corner bedroom while fighting the blaze, but later found them in a bathroom.

The children's mother survived with burns. Fire officials say she helped the children's wheelchair-bound grandmother escape the house, but was unable to reach the children in time.

A caller had notified emergency dispatchers that children were probably inside the burning house because a woman was crying outside the home. The caller told dispatchers the children were 3 and 4 years old.
