TULSA — KJRH 2 Works for You is partnering with Super Smiles to collect book donations to benefit the students of Christa McAuliffe Elementary School in Broken Arrow.

“We see this as a perfect partnership,” said Evan Clothier, dentist and owner of Super Smiles. “We love the idea of supporting our community’s children by furthering education. We are excited to partner with McAuliffe Elementary to ensure children have fun reading and continue to grow their young minds all year long.”

Donations will be accepted at Super Smiles in Broken Arrow. The first 200 contributors will receive a Super Smiles goodie bag. Children of contributors are welcome to enjoy the Super Smiles amenities in the front office area which includes a large play center and video games.

“This book drive truly embodies our 2 Cares for the Community initiative,” said Amy Calvert, vice president and general manager of 2 Works for You. “Many students who attend McAuliffe Elementary School may not have access to books during their summer break. We love that we can support summer literacy for these children.”

Books collected from the drive will be placed directly in the McAuliffe Mobile Media Book Mobile. Before receiving the book mobile, Kirby Mackenzie, former Library Media Specialist at McAuliffe, and other McAuliffe faculty would deliver books in a van every week to their students during summer break. In 2014, Ellen DeGeneres surprised Kirby and her students at McAuliffe Elementary School with the book mobile during an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“The McAuliffe Book Mobile provides support and encouragement to students and families to continue to foster the love of reading by giving them access to books throughout the summer months,” said Jennifer McKnight, principal of McAuliffe Elementary School. “This access to books helps students to maintain and potentially grow as readers over the summer months. We look forward to partnering with 2 Works for You, Super Smiles and the Tulsa community.”
Books will be collected from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 14 at Super Smiles. Viewers are encouraged to donate children’s books for grades pre-kindergarten through 5th grade.
