TULSA — TULSA -- A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday to celebrate the completion of 13 new classrooms at McClure Elementary School that also function as saferooms.

The project was completed as part of a $415 million bond issue passed by voters in 2015.

The classrooms function as saferooms, which means they are areas where students can take shelter in the event of severe weather. The rooms are built to FEMA standards, and have reinforced structure, ventilation systems, emergency supplies and separate restrooms.

Students and teachers began using the classrooms this week. The school is located at 1770 East 61st Street in south Tulsa.
