OKMULGEE COUNTY, Okla. — A 12-year-old boy died earlier this month after he crashed the vehicle he was driving near an Okmulgee County home, officials said.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol report said the boy, from Dewar, was driving a 2015 Can-Am Outlander at about 7:30 p.m. on July 20 at a residence near the junction of State Highway 52 and State Highway 266 when the crash occurred.

The boy was taken to the hospital and admitted with critical head and trunk injuries.

The report says the child passed away on July 22.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
