CHEROKEE COUNTY, Okla. – One of the two people accused in the shooting death of a Cherokee County rancher has received life without parole.

Paul D. Newberry, 24, plead guilty to the July 2015 murder of Charley Kirk, 88. Cheyenne Watts, 22, is due back in court for trial in January 2017. Kirk was found dead in his home situated on a ranch located just outside of Tahlequah near the town of Keys.

Chennault says the men claimed to be in the middle of burglarizing the home when Kirk confronted them and they shot and killed him.
