Libertarians picket 2 Works for You studios to draw attention to Gary Johnson

Posted

TULSA - About a half-dozen libertarians holding Gary Johnson/Rick Weld signs marched outside of KJRH at 37th and Peoria on Wednesday.

A group led by Tulsa County Coordinator for the campaign of Gary Johnson, Kimberly Sutich, gathered outside 2 Works for You studios in response to a story we aired on Monday in which voters expressed their disappointment in this year's presidential choices.

"The more the media leaves us out of everything and focuses on those two," Sutich said, "the more likely it is that we're going to lose our ballot access."

For the first time in 16 years, Oklahoma voters will have a choice between a Republican, Democrat and a Libertarian candidate for president. Sutich says Oklahoma voters don't have to settle for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton and their running mates. She says they can look to former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson and former Massachusetts Governor William Weld.

"On the Libertarian ballot, which we finally have for the first time in a very long time, and it's very important to us because if we don't get that 2.5 percent of the vote this year, then we're not going to have it next year," Sutich said.

According to Oklahoma law, a party's candidate must garner at least 2.5 percent of the total vote to automatically retain its place on the ballot for the next election cycle.

Oklahoma recognized the Libertarian Party in March after more than 42,000 people signed petitions to certify a new party. More than 30,000 signatures were certified, exceeding the minimum number required by 6,000.
