OWASSO-- Temperatures are nearing triple digits, and the need for air conditioning is crucial.

But what  happens if your AC stops working?

Eric Poplin says his pregnant wife and kids had to leave their home after their air conditioning unit froze Tuesday night.

“80 degrees doesn’t sound bad until you’re trying to sleep at night and get comfortable and then it gets to be kinda unbearable,” said Poplin.

Evans Services Owner, Tipton Evans says it’s best to keep your AC unit maintained year-round.

“Keep the air-conditioning coil and the evaporating coil clean, check charges and make sure you have clean filters in every month,” said Evans.

To save energy Evans said you can turn up the thermostat a couple degrees higher than you normally set it.

“If you turn it up too high it just has to work overtime to try catch back up,” said Evans.

Poplin said he hopes he’ll be living in cool air again soon.

“Sounds like we might have a bad fan hopefully we can get it replaced here pretty quick, probably within the end of the day hopefully. I’ve got the best guy in town on the job so he’ll take care of it for me,” said Poplin.

Evans says it's best to have a contractor clean your AC unit to make sure the job gets done right.
