Haskell plays first game since player was critically injured during game in his honor

Posted

HASKELL, Okla-- Things weren't quite the same at the home of the Haymakers Friday night as the team played its first game since freshman running back Reuben Thomas was injured in a game.

Thomas underwent surgery earlier this week and has been steadily improving, according to the family.

Players wore Reuben's number 33 on their helmets. His brother wore the number 33 jersey to honor Reuben.

Note: Previous stories use the name Reuben Wheeland. The player's legal name is Reuben Wheeland, but according to his father, Reuben goes by the last name of his stepfather, Thomas.
