A firefighter in Colorado snapped a picture of what appears to be a fire tornado while battling flames in Colorado.
The phenomenon can also be called a “fire whirl” and is caused when hot, dry air is close to the ground, then rises rapidly in a column ultimately forming a vortex.
CNN reports that fire tornadoes can be quite dangerous but usually brief.
The picture above was taken at The Beaver Creek Fire in Walden, Colorado, which has been burning since June, says CNN.
