Couple remembers first date at The Tulsa State Fair 45 years later.

Posted

TULSA-- On October 9th 1971, Jerry and Ralene Lakey met at the Tulsa State Fair for the very first time. Jerry said the two were set up on a blind date after a month of convincing by Ralene’s father.

“He comes back and says okay I called her, you got a date with her. So I didn’t have a choice but to call her then." said Jerry Lakey.

Jerry said it was a typical first date.

"What do I do? How do I do this? How are ya?” said Lakey.

But a picture of the couple taken at a photo booth on the midway, captured a love that turned into 43 years of marriage.

“That’s a first date picture right there from here at the fair,” said Lakey.

Now three kids and six grandkids later, The Lakey’s are both working at the fair. Jerry said he’s glad he finally went on that first date.

“You can’t help but smile I mean it’s the first time you met somebody that you’ve been with over half your life,” said Lakey.
