TULSA (AP) -- A jury has awarded $25,000 in damages to a former female inmate who said in a lawsuit that she was sexually assaulted at the Tulsa County Jail.
The jury's decision was announced Wednesday in federal court. The lawsuit filed on behalf of the 23-year-old woman says she was repeatedly sexually assaulted over a four-month period in 2010 by a Tulsa jail detention officer. The now-former officer was dismissed as a defendant from the lawsuit. He was never criminally charged in the case.
Former Tulsa County Sheriff Stanley Glanz was named in the lawsuit.
The jury determined that Glanz, in his individual capacity, and Acting Sheriff Michelle Robinette, in her official capacity as a representative of Tulsa County, were liable for actions that resulted in the violations of the woman's rights.
