6 dogs killed, firefighter injured in Sand Springs house fire

SAND SPRINGS, Okla. - A Sand Springs firefighter is recovering from injuries he sustained fighting a fire in the 900 block of W. 4th St. in Sand Springs.

People who live in the home told 2 Works for You four people were home when the fire broke out at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Seven dogs were also in the home. All of the people escaped without harm, but six dogs died in the fire, according to fire officials.

Crews from Berryhill and Sapulpa also helped put out the fire.

One firefighter was transported to a Tulsa hospital. An EMSA spokesperson confirmed a patient was transported non-emergent, which she said generally means good or fair condition.

Sand Springs fire officials told 2 Works for You Wednesday afternoon, the firefighter was treated and released.

Note: The original version of this story said a total of five dogs were killed in the house fire. Fire officials tell 2 Works for You six dogs died.
