DELAWARE COUNTY, Okla. -- A couple was arrested Saturday after deputies found 26 dogs in the couple's possession, and many more animals buried in their yard.
Delaware County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Dennis and Lisa Garcia at their residence near Colcord yesterday afternoon. They said the couple is facing 44 counts of animal abuse and neglect.
Sheriff’s officials said 22 of the dogs were rescued however 4 were euthanized on site because of their poor health conditions. 22 other animals including dogs, rabbits and a cat were found buried in the Garcia’s yard.
Area animal rescue agencies set up a make-shift veterinary clinic during the rescue. Sheriff Harlan Moore said the living conditions were unsuitable for both humans and animals.
“It was not a good scene, and as the Sheriff of the county we just can’t have that sort of thing,” said Sheriff Moore.
Both Dennis and Lisa Garcia are currently being held in Delaware County Jail. The animals were released to the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals by the Delaware County Sherrif's Office.
