First Black Friday ad of the season is out

Posted

The calendar has barely turned October, but the 2015 holiday shopping season is already starting.

The very first Black Friday ad of the season is out, for Half Price Books.

What? You were expecting Walmart or Best Buy? Sorry, those are still weeks away.

The website bfads.nethas posted the ad for the popular discount bookstore, which features:

  • Genuine leather iPhone cases for $17
  • Free tote bags and a $5 gift card to the first 100 customers
  • Tote bags for 99 cents
  • Star Wars T Shirts for $5
  • Bestselling books for 20% off

Those may not get your blood flowing, or cause you to line up 6 hours before the doors open, but it's a start.

When Will the Big Ads Come?

The store that typically issues the first Black Friday ad each year, Harbor Freight Tools, is expected to release its ad Sunday, Oct. 11.

The biggest ads -- for Best Buy, Toys R Us, Target, and Walmart, typically are not leaked until the beginning of November, so you are going to have to wait a while.

Staples, meantime, has announced it will not be opening on Thanksgiving evening, but rather will wait until Friday morning this year. It's a nice gesture, but Staples is also one of those stores that doesn't have lines around the block.

Most stores are expected to open Thursday at 5 or 6 p.m.

As always, don't waste your money.
