OKMULGEE, Okla. -- The temporary boil advisory issued after crews fixed a water line break that occurred early Tuesday morning has been lifted.

Okmulgee Mayor Steven Baldridge says the water tests returned normal.

Jojo’s Q BBQ Owner Joe Martel said he closed his restaurant on Tuesday rather than risk his customers’ health after the boil advisory was issued Tuesday morning.

“If you have a boil advisory why even put your customers at risk and contaminate dishes and cups and anything that we use to serve our customers,” said Martel.

The boil advisory also forced schools to close, meaning many parents had to take the day off form work.

“It’s unprepared. You want to get up and go to work, but you can’t, because you’re kids are at home with no water,” said Parent Jeffery Rice.

Okmulgee city officials said crews got to work immediately by locating the break and getting the system back online.

“We did locate the blowout we isolated it, we put a strap on it so we could get the water towers back up,” said Okmulgee Mayor Steven Baldridge.

Martel said his restaurant will stay closed until he knows for sure his customers are safe.

“As long as the boil order is in effect we won’t be open. I won’t put my customers at risk in no type of way,” said Martel.
