Possible delays in store after holiday weekend as bridge construction begins

Posted

Two big construction projects could cause big delays after the holiday weekend. Bridges along N 129th E Ave and State Highway 20 are getting renovations that could add to drive time.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation describes the bridge on N 129th E Ave over I-244 as "structurally deficient" - requiring a full replacement.

Until spring 2019, the section of road will be closed down, and 244 running under it could see periodic lane changes as well. During the weekend of September 7, that stretch of road will be closed entirely, with traffic being rerouted to I-44 and Highway 169.

"Just follow the detour signs that will be in that area and just know you'll have to plan some extra travel time," ODOT Spokesperson Kenna Mitchell said. "It's not just you that's going to have to use the detours; it's a lot of other drivers as well."

In Skiatook, State Highway 20 over Bird Creek will be narrowing down to one lane for a bridge rehab project. That project will also last until spring 2019.
