TULSA – Several gathered downtown Thursday to discuss issues with the smart meters and usage in Tulsa just moments before a pre-planned protest was scheduled.
The Public Service Company of Oklahoma held a press conference at the its downtown location to talk about new and advanced digital meters.
PSO officials say the new advanced digital meters help get power restores quicker after a storm. They the claims the 9. 12 project protestors are saying are not true.
PSO says the Smart Meters currently being utilized by customers save money because they don’t have to send someone to physically read the meters.

The company went on to say that 60 out of roughly 545,000 have completed the “opt out” program to no longer use the smart meter. PSO went on to say that there is no confirmation of whether or not the “opt out” program could be phased out.
In January, PSO reported, the company plans to have a review to see the costs of those who did opt out of using the smart meters.
