On these brutally hot, dog days of summer, ice cream can really hit the spot.

Especially ice cream sandwiches.

But how long will they last if you're enjoying the tasty treat outdoors? A little longer than you may think.

We decided to see how long it would take for an organic ice cream sandwich and a non-organic ice cream sandwich to melt and which would melt first in the near 100-degree heat.

Not surprisingly, the organic one started melting first, but it wasn't until approximately 20 minutes in that the organic ice cream sandwich started to lose it's shape.

The non-organic wasn't too far behind, but it did last a little longer.

Regardless, 20 minutes should be more than enough time to cool off with an ice cream sandwich, unless you're a really slow eater.

We were surprised that it took as long as it did for both to start melting, but when you consider they were frozen to begin the test, it may not be as surprising. Here's our Facebook Live and a timelapse of the melting is in the video player above.
