High-speed chase suspect files excessive force lawsuit against 3 officers, City of Owasso

TULSA – The man involved in the high-speed chase that ended just outside the city of Nowata has filed a $200,000 lawsuit against the officers that subdued him.

Cody Mathews, 25, led authorities on a vehicle chase for about 45 minutes down Highway 169in June 2015 driving an allegedly stolen truck.

On Wednesday, Mathews filed a petition against the City of Owasso, Owasso Police Department and the jail as well as three police officers for assault and battery.

Allegations of excessive force surfaced after police arrested Mathews. One Owasso officer was placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation due to the claims.

The police officers claim that Mathews resisted arrest and a Nowata police officer had to use a Taser on him.
