TULSA – Police say a man is fighting for his life after being severely beaten Wednesday night.

Tulsa police say just before 8 p.m. they received multiple calls regarding four people who were attacking a man in the street on North Johnston Avenue in north Tulsa.

The victim, 41-year-old Joe Perez, was declared brain dead just after 10, Thursday morning.

Officers arrested four people: Ernest Edwards, Romelo Northington, Tonyo Hughes and a 17-year-old. These men, initially charged with assault, now face first degree murder.

Police say the charges were upgraded to prevent the suspects from bonding out on the lesser charge.
