TULSA, Okla. -- Police arrested a man for allegedly assaulting a firefighter responding to a house fire in north Tulsa.

Firefighters responded to a call near 2500 N. Kingston Avenue at about 11:10 p.m. Monday. When they arrived, police said the firemen tried to prevent people from reentering a burning building, and that's when one man assaulted a firefighter.

Police said Dale Parsons, 48, struck a firefighter with a large flashlight repeatedly and knocked him down while Parsons tried to go back into the building. Firefighters subdued him until police could arrive.

Paramedics checked out the firefighter at the scene and released him. Police said he suffered several cuts on his head, but he's okay.

Firefighters also put out the small fire, and a fire marshal responded to investigate.

Parsons now faces several charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon, interfering with a fireman, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He's due in court October 11.
