TULSA – Recent DNA testing has proven the innocence of a man accused of raping and kidnapping two women.

Daniel Stegeman, 33, has been cleared of all accusations after the testing showed he was not the suspect connected to two reported rapes, say Tulsa police.

Stegeman was arrested after both of the victims pointed him out in a photo lineup. Authorities say they were also able to match his vehicle to the description that was given for both scenes.

Something seemed off, detectives said, once they brought Stegeman in for questioning.

“They're usually very confident when they walk out of an interview about whether somebody is guilty or innocent. In this case, they described their gut feeling as they didn't get that feeling one way or another. There was some turmoil,” said Capt. Richard Helberg, Tulsa Police Department.

Tulsa police went on to report that authorities have another suspect in custody that is being questioned at this time.
