Craig County Deputy, Sean Cookson, dies following crash in Cherokee County

CRAIG COUNTY, Okla. -- The Craig County Sheriff's office is mourning the loss of one of their deputies. Sheriff Heath Winfrey announced that 23-year-old Deputy Sean Cookson died on Monday night.

Cookson died after being admitted to the hospital following a crash in Cherokee County on February 22. Sheriff Winfrey posted on Facebook that the deputy died surrounded by friends, family and law enforcement officers.

Cookson recently completed Oklahoma's Peace Officer Certification course and began working as a deputy on February 9.
