BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – A Broken Arrow Public Schools student is recovering after being struck by a vehicle.

Broken Arrow police confirmed that a juvenile was hit by the car while riding her skateboard near the 1200th block of South Main Street. The girl is currently listed as in critical condition, police reported.

Broken Arrow Public Schools sent a statement regarding the incident but did not confirm the grade the girl was currently in.

“Early this morning, we were notified by the Broken Arrow Police Department that one of our students was involved in an auto-pedestrian accident. Our hearts go out to the student and her family, and we will work to provide assistance to them during this difficult time. We are also providing support for our students and staff who are affected by this tragedy. Although the accident did not occur during school hours or at one of our sites, we will continue to provide assistance to the police department as they investigate what happened.”

A witness in the area reported seeing the girl riding her skateboard in the center of Main Street.

“You can imagine what this would do to anyone in this incident,” said Sgt. Keith Cook, Broken Arrow Police Department. “We feel for everyone involved in this incident.”

Officers say it does not appear the woman was speeding.
