One person is dead, one is in custody and two more men are on the run following a suspected break-in at a south Tulsa apartment, according to Tulsa police.

Police say they arrived to the apartment complex near East 71st Street and South Mingo Road late Monday night to find an apartment resident holding down a suspect who received a non-life threatening stab wound to his side.

According to police, a man and woman living inside an apartment emerged from their back bedroom to find two men rifling through their things in the living room.

The couple confronted the men and eventually the confrontation led to a fight.

At the same time, according to Sgt. Darren Bristow, a third apartment resident returned home and was pistol-whipped upon entering the apartment.

As the fight grew, Bristow explains that one of the residents grabbed a knife and fatally stabbed one of the suspects, 16. Another suspect, 14, was also stabbed and received a non-life threatening wound.

Bristow says this appears to be random, and the residents say they didn't know their attackers.

"One thing we stress to people, we always have, is even when you're home lock your doors. Don't answer the door for somebody you don't know. Don't open the door for somebody you don't know, and that's the best way to prevent any kind of a home invasion," Sgt. Bristow said.

Two men living in the apartment were transported by EMSA for treatment of their injuries.

The suspect who received the non-life threatening stab wound was also transported for his and is currently in police custody.

Two men who stood guard outside the apartment managed to escape. Descriptions provided by witnesses were vague.
