Zika virus transmitted sexually in Texas

DALLAS COUNTY, Texas. - The first case of Zika virus has been confirmed in Dallas County, Texas. The virus was acquired through sexual contact.

NBC affiliate NBCDFW says that Dallas County Health and Human Services received confirmation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The county said in a news release Tuesday, "The patient was infected with the virus after having sexual contact with an ill individual who returned from a country where Zika virus is present. For medical confidentiality and personal privacy reasons, DCHHS does not provide additional identifying information."

Health officials said there are no reports of the virus being transmitted by mosquitoes.
