Area kids get to 'Shop with a Cop' this holiday season

BIXBY - Law enforcement agencies in Bixby and Tulsa County are teaming up to brighten the Christmas season for local families in need.

The annual event, Shop with a Cop, teams deputies from the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office, Bixby Police and the Bixby Rotary Club with at-risk youth who could benefit from positive experiences with law enforcement. The officers and deputies help kids make a Christmas shopping list for their families, then take them to the store to purchase the gifts.

Young participants are selected by the Bixby Outreach Center.

The kids and their benefactors will shop at an area Walmart on Sunday.

Last year's event helped more than 50 students ranging in age from 7 to 15. The Rotary Club raised more than $5,000 for the kids to buy holiday gifts for themselves and their families.
