Up to 6 inches of snow possible in west Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- The National Weather Service says 3 to 6 inches of snow is possible in parts of western Oklahoma as a winter storm moves through the state this week.

A winter storm watch is in place for several areas in western Oklahoma, including the cities of Alva, Elk City, Weatherford and Woodward. The weather service says a half-foot of snow is possible in the area, with the potential for higher amounts in the Panhandle.

Forecasters say the snow is expected to develop in western Oklahoma late Monday night and spread east Tuesday.

The weather service says 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible farther east in the state, but little accumulation is expected because of warm ground temperatures.
