TULSA - Not running in either the half marathon or marathon races?
You can still participate, and the runners will thank you for it!
Here are 7 places around town to take in the sights of the 11th year of the Route 66 Marathon.
STARTING LINE - Watching the confetti fly, listening to the music blaring and the mass of humanity setting foot to run 13.1 miles or 26.2 miles is a sight to behold. And, if you wait around after the runners leave, you might just score a jacket or sweat pants the participants take off just before they head out. Ha Ha. Plus it gives you the chance to walk through downtown to the finish line to catch the runners coming in.
FINISH LINE - Let the party begin. What can be better than seeing the pure joy, and pain, on the runners' faces as they complete their journey?!
22nd PLACE and UTICA - Watch all of the runners come by here early on, and later. Runners will pass this point just after two miles into the race and for the marathoners, you'll see them cruise by here again between miles 15 and 16.
PEORIA BETWEEN 32nd and 41st STREETS - This is a great Brookside block party for the nine blocks of the race around mile 7. Plus, 2 Works for You will have staff outside our studio to cheer on the runners and live stream this part of the race.
CHERRY STREET - This is a tough part of the course as 15th St between Delaware and Peoria has rolling hills for the marathoners as they pass the 22-mile mark of the race. They could sure use your support as their legs are burning and their feet are throbbing.
6th and PEORIA - Watch the marathoners as they break out of downtown and head toward mile 14 and watch them return here just two miles from the end. Great spot to let the participants know they're almost done!
